Governance

The ACE Foundation is governed by a committee of ten trustees who are responsible for the adherence of the Foundation to its objectives.

The present trustees are as follows:

Ann Barrett OBE FMedSci MS FRCR FRCP

Ann Barrett is former professor of Clinical Oncology at the Norfolk and Norwich University NHS Trust. She was first associated with the University of Glasgow and the Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Center, later becoming Dean of the Faculty of Oncology at the Royal College of Radiologists and deputy head of School of the University of East Anglia. She was awarded an OBE for services to Healthcare in 2009.

Stephen Briggs PhD FGS FSA MIFA

Stephen is currently an honorary research fellow at the University of Wales Lampeter, following his retirement as an archaeologist with the Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Wales.

Professor Sir Paul Mellars ScD FBA FSA

Paul is Professor of Prehistory and Human Evolution in the Department of Archaeology at the University of Cambridge. His specialist areas include behavioural studies of mesolithic hunter-gatherer populations and the behaviour and archaeology of Neanderthal populations. He has carried out excavations on early mesolithic sites at Oronsay in the Inner Hebrides in Scotland and at Star Carr in North Yorkshire.

Denis Moriarty MA

An Oxford graduate, Denis spent thirty years at the BBC, where he specialised in producing documentaries on art, architecture and cultural history. Denis has a passion for music and directed the BBC television programme Face the Music, sang with the Philharmonia Chorus and was a founder member of Roger Norrington's Schütz Choir.

Colin Moses RIBA

Colin is international principal of RMJM, one of the world’s leading architectural practices. He studied architecture at the University of Sheffield and leads design work for the company across the education and research sectors.

Roland Randall MA MSc PhD FIEEM

A Fellow and Director in Studies of Geography at Girton College, Cambridge, Roland specializes in biogeography, in particular studying the dry coastal ecosystems and high-stress environments of the Mediterranean and Britain. He also owns and runs a farm near Cambridge which is renowned for its pedigree goats.

Rupert Scott BMus

A composer, and for many years a professional orchestral violinist with Opera North, Rupert now lectures widely on music. Rupert studied at King's College, London, and at the Royal Academy of Music, and has helped to develop a range of music courses for ACE that embrace some of Europe's premier festivals.

Nicholas Wright MA

Nick Wright is former bursar of Murray Edwards (New Hall) college. Nick was appointed in 1997 and immediately began addressing significant areas of need in the College, including the development of financial reporting, overseeing essential repairs to the estate, and instigating the developments that resulted in the conference facilities and new student accommodation (Buckingham House and Canning & Eliza Fok House) and establishing a conference business to support the core activities of the College.

Paul Barnes MSc PhD ( General Secretary)

Paul studied physics and engineering at University College London before working in research and operational analysis for the Ministry of Defence. Much of this work related to conflict resolution and peacekeeping studies, his understanding enhanced by the experience of growing up with ACE study courses and summer schools. Paul became Assistant Secretary in 1998, succeeding his father as General Secretary (Chief Executive) in 2002. He has a fascination with 20th century design and history and a love of music, playing both guitar and saxophone.
