Cambridge Clarinet & Saxophone Day

With James Rae

13th February 2011 | 9.30-5.30 | Sawston Village College

On the 13th of February 85 Clarinet and Saxophone players of all ages and abilities gathered together at Sawston Village College for a day of playing and workshops.

The day got off to a great start with a welcome concert by James Rae and our local tutors. Participants enjoyed playing in small ensembles, attending either a clarinet or saxophone workshop with James Rae, and listening to a reed and mouthpiece demonstration with Thomas Dryer-Beers. In the afternoon everyone got together to play in the full single reed choir of 85+ players.

Participants were treated to a concert by Simply Reeds at Lunch time and throughout the day Wood Wind & Reed were on hand for musical shopping and advice. We were also delighted to be joined by artist Lesley Fotherby who sketched scenes from the event and produced some beautiful artworks.

To finish a great day participants and tutors played a concert to friends and family. Thank you to all who took part for working so hard and making the day such a great success. A full review by Stephanie Reeve will be available to read here soon.

Photos of the day and of Lesley's artwork are on our flickr page please take a look.
