Cambridge Clarinet & Saxophone Day
With a French Theme. Featuring James Rae

Enjoy the Joie de Vivre of our third clarinet and saxophone day, this year with a French twist. Spend a whole day exploring your musical talent and passion in various instrument and ability groups including music by Bizet, Debussy, Faure, Ravel, Saint-Saens and Jazz arrangements by Jon Halton. Relax in our French cafe and listen to a concert of Parisian cafe music. Clarinet and saxophone players of all ages and abilities are welcome to join James Rae, local professionals and the ACE Foundation for what promises to be an informative and fun day. Instruments, reeds, mouthpieces, music and accessories will be available at the Wood, Wind & Reed trade stand and the day will be completed with a concert to family and friends.
James Rae Biography
James Rae is one of Europe’s most prolific composers of educational wind music, having at present over 200 publications to his credit. He has tutored and conducted on many courses over the last 25 years including the highly popular Northern Saxophone Course. He has been Saxophone professor for the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain. As a clarinettist and saxophonist, James Rae has worked professionally in nearly every possible environment from West End musicals to recording sessions with Simon Rattle. His music includes instrumental jazz study books, tutors, transcriptions and many volumes of duets, trios and quartets.
Course
• Meet and play with top performers, teachers and composers.
• Be part of a clarinet and saxophone ensemble with suitable parts for all abilities.
• Various instrument and ability ensembles.
• Full single reed choir.
• Wood, Wind & Reed trade stand, including instruments, sheet music and accessories.
• Play music by Bizet, Debussy, Faure, Ravel, Saint-Saens and Jazz arrangements by Jon Halton.
• Relax & listen to live music in our French Café.
• End of day concert for friends and family at 5.00.

Who
• Anyone with a Clarinet &/or Saxophone is invited. We welcome all players from school age to retirement.
• Abilities from grade 1 to diploma.
• Free entry for teachers with 3 or more students in attendance.
• Please bring more unusual range instruments if possible.

Venue
Sawston Village College, New Road, Sawston, CB22 3BP. Provides ample free parking and excellent rehearsal and performance spaces within their new performing arts centre.
