Cambridge Flute Day

With Ian Clarke

Sunday 22nd April 2012 | 9.30-6.00 | Sawston Village College

After a breath taking flute day in 2011 it gives us great pleasure to invite all flutists from school age to retirement, grade 2 to diploma to meet and play with top performer and composer Ian Clarke. There will be ensemble work for differing abilities, talks on creativity and technical practice, opportunities to learn accessible extended techniques, trade stand and an instrument clinic by Wood, Wind & Reed. There will also be the opportunity for some more advanced players to play with Ian’s accompanist Tim Carey plus concerts and demonstrations by Ian Clarke.

Ian Clarke Biography

Ian Clarke is acknowledged as one of the leading players and composers in the flute world. His compositions have been performed across five continents on stages ranging from London’s South Band to Glastonbury Festival and they have been featured in the last four BBC Young Musician woodwind finals. His published works are considered to be some of the most exciting flute repertoire of today and are being embraced by internationally acclaimed performers, teachers, colleges and students alike. Ian Clarke has performed as a featured soloist at conventions in Italy, Slovenia, Hungary, Netherlands, the USA and for the British Flute Society. He is professor of flute at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama and has given master classes at the Royal Academy of Music, Guildhall School of Music & Drama, Royal Scottish Academy, Royal Northern, and Trinity College of Music..
