The Ace Foundation is delighted to offer you the opportunity to play with Britain’s best-loved Saxophonist Alan Barnes on this creative and dynamic day. Whether you are new to jazz, classically trained or a skilled improviser, our team of top jazz tutors, supporting Alan will help you to develop your love of jazz. Anyone with a jazz friendly instrument with a minimum of grade 3 reading skills will spend an inspirational day playing in jazz ensembles, joining in jam sessions, listening to concerts and demonstrations. Participants will also have the opportunity to think about approaches to improvisation, explore the Wood, Wind & Reed jazz trade stand and perform in an end of day concert with the Jazz singers.

Alan Barnes Biography

We are delighted to bring Alan Barnes, one of Britain’s best-loved saxophonists, to this innovative event. Alan Barnes is a highly talented leader in the jazz world, he has twice been voted BBC Jazz musician of the year, has won multiple awards and is a fellow of the Leeds College of Music. Alan has more than 30 Albums of his own, and over 30 playing with the likes of Tommy Chase, Jamie Cullum, Westlife, Clarke Tracy, Björk, Don Wellar Big Band, and the Charlie Watts tentet. He is a renowned composer and arranger and in 2003 started his own record label which has grown to incorporate many artists from Europe and the USA.

Course

• Meet and play with top performers, teachers and composers.
• Play in a full jazz ensemble with suitable parts for all abilities.
• Drop in jam sessions.
• Various ability ensembles.
• Creative & dynamic environment.
• End of day concert for friends and family at 5.00pm.
• Wood, Wind & Reed Jazz trade stand all day. Including instruments, sheet music and accessories.

Event Details

Who

• Anyone with a jazz friendly instrument is invited to this event. We welcome all players from school age to retirement.
• A minimum of grade 3 reading skills are required along with an interest in jazz!
• Free entry for any teacher with 3 or more students.

Transport

St Faith's is close to Cambridge City Centre and the Railway station. The Trumpington Park and Ride is approximately 5 minutes from our site and the nearest motorway junction is Junction 11 of the M11, again about 5 minutes drive from the school grounds. There is limited parking on site and nearby street parking.
